If you are already using pluggable transceivers (SFPs, SFP+’s, QSFP+’s and QSFP28’s) to transform your network into cloud, digital and IoT ready infrastructure, we have some good news for you. We have just launched a new generic range of pluggable transceivers from Netshield.
What makes these SFPs different? They aren’t coded to a specific device and as a result are an affordable cost-effective alternative to brand specific solutions.
What is an SFP?
A Quad / small form-factor pluggable (Q / SFP) is a compact, hot-pluggable optical module transceiver used for networking applications. So typically, when you connect an SFP expansion module to a switch, you get an affordable means to add fibre capabilities to the network switch, without having to rip and replace components in your network.
Our new generic range are also great as a cost-effective solution in a new network rollout, or when you may want to upgrade your existing infrastructure from 1GB to 10GB, 10GB to 40GB, and 40GB to 100GB.
The difference
The Netshield generic range of pluggable transceivers are not programmed to a specific brand of switch, which means they can be used across a number of switches where the vendor has not hardwired the code into the device. Same performance… Lower price.
Notably our generic range allows you the flexibility to expand the speed of the switch by 1, 10, 25, 40 or 100 Gigabit as well as the distance the network can reach. They allow you to execute on network upgrades that are much easier as the generic SFPs are fibre connectors that will adapt to any existing network.
If however the vendor has hardcoded the switch, a network engineer will be able to code a generic device and still take advantage of the reduced price.
Doing the maths
Did you know that an original 100GB QSFP28 can cost in the region of R50,000.00 whereas a generic can tally up at 60% less. Yes this depends on the brand it needs to interface with to. But our Netshield engineers will be happy to test the devices within your environment to certify that the devices will speak to your specific OEM networking solution.
What’s more? Our generic range works with a host of Netshield Media Converters, Netshield Switches and other OEM switches that don’t use proprietary coding and is made up of the:
What are you waiting for?
We have always had pluggable transceivers (SFPs, SFP+’s, QSFP+’s and QSFP28’s) in our line-up – these include our Netshield Compatible range which you may know cost 60% less than brand specific devices. What is new is that we now have a generic range – perfect for the price conscious customer looking to beef up their network but who just can’t afford the costs of brand specific solutions.
Netshield… Where quality lives.
